Miles extradited to Texas to face kidnapping charges

A man arrested earlier this month in Colorado for the kidnapping of two Round Rock children is back in Texas, the U.S. Marshals Service announced.

Terrence Allen Miles, 44, was arrested Jan. 3 by the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Department in La Veta, Colorado. Miles had been sought on a federal complaint for the kidnapping of two girls, ages 7 and 14, both of whom were found safe at the time of the arrest.

Miles made his initial appearance Jan. 4 in the U.S. District Court in Denver and was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, awaiting extradition back to Texas.

Miles was received Thursday, Jan. 18, by the U.S. Marshals Service in the Western District of Texas, Austin Division, where he will remain in custody and proceed through the judiciary process on the federal charge of kidnapping.  A court date has not been set.

Miles is a person of interest in the murder of the girls’ mother, Tonya Bates, 44. On Dec. 31, officers responded to a welfare concern at a residence in the 2600 block of Leslie Court, made entry, and found Bates deceased inside the home.
