How do you view your role as a member of the Board of Trustees?

First and foremost, my role as a board member is to do right by our students. The decisions we make impact the education of every child in Round Rock ISD, and we need to ensure that our decisions are based on what is best for students. My role is also to be an advocate for our students and teachers. It is part of my responsibility to share the great things going on in our classrooms with members of the community and others interested in public education.

What is your vision for Round Rock ISD?

My vision for Round Rock ISD is to have a culture that promotes student achievement in their individualized academic path and furthers Round Rock ISD as a Destination District for families and educators. I want Round Rock ISD to be the District that every parent wants to send their child; that every educator wants to have a position; and that every business and university looks to in order to find the best-prepared students.

What are you most proud of as a member of the Board of Trustees?

I am most proud of the commitment we have as a District to our strategic plan and allowing that to drive our decision making. The document was crafted by students, parents, teachers, and community members of Round Rock ISD, and summarizes what they believe our schools should look like and offer. I believe that if we continue to follow it, that we will be thrilled with the outcome and the positive impact it will have on our students.

What current program or initiative in Round Rock ISD are you most excited about and why?

I am very excited about our schools of choice initiative and our designation as a District of Innovation. Both go a long way in helping create an environment that will allow each student to pursue their own academic path. Every child learns differently and has different goals, and Round Rock ISD should be a District that has the programs needed to meet the diverse dreams of our students.

Who was your favorite school teacher and why?

Ms. Blanchette was my AP US History teacher and she was the first teacher to really push me. Others had challenged me before then, but she was the first to treat me and the other students in my class as adults. She had higher expectations, which made you want to work that much harder to meet them. She also asked the difficult questions that made me not just learn the material for a test, but retain it and be able to apply it to other aspects of life.

What do you enjoy doing when not serving the students, parents and community members of Round Rock ISD?

Spending time with my family is all I want to do in my free time. They are so kind to allow me the opportunity and time to serve, so I want to take advantage of any chance I get to play with my kids or do something fun as a family. We enjoy going to our kids’ activities, movies, and spending time playing outside.
