In this season of feasting with our families, many dogs and cats do not have a place to call home. Due to the large number of animals that have been abandoned or lost, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) is in a dire situation regarding space, which puts the lives of animals at risk. The shelter is asking the community to help them maintain their high save rate by adopting or fostering today.

“Home for the Holidays” is a foster drive that saves the lives of the lost and abandoned pets of Williamson County and raises awareness about the importance of pet adoption during the holiday season. The short term commitment of fostering saves lives by opening kennel spaces and gives the dogs and cats a much needed break from the stresses of shelter life. After fostering, the dogs and cats are healthier and happier – ready to find their forever homes.

Foster families can easily fill out a foster application and search for potential holiday foster pets at the shelter’s website, www.wilcopets.org.

“More families bring a new pet home during the holiday season than at any other time of the year.” says Cheryl Schneider, animal services director of WCRAS. “The shelter is spreading the joy of adopting by lowering the adoption fees for the holiday season.”

Families can adopt an adult dog or cat through the month of December for only $25. During the last week of November, families can “Name Their Price” for most of the animals in the shelter.

All dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before they go into their foster or forever homes.
