AUSTIN (KXAN) — A stretch of William Cannon Drive will be closed through the weekend as construction crews continue working on the continuous flow intersection project at U.S. Highway 290.

Texas Department of Transportation officials say they will close northbound traffic along William Cannon south of Hwy. 290 starting at 8 p.m. on Friday. No northbound traffic will be allowed past Escarpment Boulevard until the work is done. The lanes will reopen no later than 5 a.m. on Monday, TxDOT said.

Crews will work to remove an existing concrete island and level up the roadway.

Motorists should expect extra delays in the area during that time.
