TRINITY, Texas (KXAN) — A summer camp is focusing on teaching kids about pro-life issues.

Teens at Reveal summer camp are spending time away from home, away from parents, and away from school work.

“If they come they’re going to have a great time,” said camper Bridey Davis, 17.

Teens such as Bridey are taking on adult topics.

“We’ve learned about what abortion is. We’ve learned about what it means to be pro-life, to truly stand up for life at all stages,” said Bridey.

The camp has aspects of a traditional summer camp such as swimming, cabins and campfires. Still, some campers say they’re already planning on how to take what they learned in camp back home.

“Hopefully (I will) get a group going, a pro-life group back in my hometown,” Bridey said.

Bridey says she was inspired last year. The legislature considered and then passed new abortion restrictions.

Teens were also on the other side supporting the filibuster and protesting the possible rule change.

“We saw an immense turnout of young people, including high school students even younger, many of whom were coming to the Capitol for the first time and getting involved,” said Heather Busby, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Texas.

Tuesday Cain, 15, isn’t old enough to vote but she hopes to influence those who do.

“I really care about what’s going on,” Tuesday said. “This is my future. This is my friends’ future.”

Back at Reveal, camp counselors say former campers are getting involved in college groups and with Texas Right to Life. The camp started in 2009 and had 25 campers this year.
