Taylor city council members took another step toward renovating Jones and Burkett streets on the city’s east side at a special meeting Thursday, approving the local firm of Facilities Rehabilitation Inc. to resurface the streets and to replace aging water and sewer lines beneath the pavement.
The winning bid, best among five bidders, was for $1,034,645. The city had allocated some $600,000 for the work, but City Engineer Casey Sledge told the council at its meeting that engineers recommended that all utilities along the streets be replaced. This, he said, would avoid “old pipes under new pavement.â€
