Mysterious object spotted across Central Texas sky Saturday

AUSTIN (KXAN) — We received many calls and emails about a mysterious flying object that split in the sky at about 9:15 Saturday night. It is believed that object was a meteor.

“In Westlake tonight watching the full moon there was a bright light that streaked across the sky,” one KXAN viewer said via email. “…Sort of east/west – and fast, steady, not choppy – not a plane or helicopter.”

Mike Prendergast, a storm chaser with AllAccessWeather.com, spotted the meteor Saturday night near Dallas and pulled out his camera. He said the main part glowed bright blue before burning up.

The American Meteor Society received multiple reports of the meteor spanning from Texas to Florida.

“I saw it in Georgetown,” another viewer commented on our Facebook page. “…Two objects flying side by side…way to fast to be a plane, and then it disappeared. Glad others witnessed it as well because my FB friends did not seem to believe me.”
