AUSTIN (KXAN) – An Austin church is headed to the border to offer humanitarian aid to undocumented immigrants, and KXAN will be along for the journey

More than 40 members of Saint James Episcopal Church left Austin Sunday afternoon. They are donating things like clothes, diapers, snacks and water to non-profit and faith based organizations helping with the influx of immigrants crossing the border.

Church members say that, despite different viewpoints on the situation along the border, people there need help.

“When the call went out for help, people were so ready to respond that we have not had to ask more than once” said Lizze Cain Clarke, who is traveling to the border. “People are coming out of the woodwork to help, and that has been brilliant to see.”

The group plans to return to Austin Thursday.
