AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin has become one of the leading cities in the country for the number of education startup companies.

That’s why beginning Friday Capital Factory, a coworking incubator space in downtown Austin, will host an event for innovators, teachers, and just about anyone with an idea to create a product.

This three day event called Startup Weekend Education is an opportunity for anyone with an idea or wants to join a team working on an idea to build a startup with advice from coaches and mentors.

“After the weekend the plan is the team will execute the idea and come up with really great ideas to challenges in education,” said Sean Duffy, Startup Weekend Education Organizer.

One product that was helped shaped by this kind of weekend is called Aceable Drivers Education.

They are working to transform the way teens take their driver’s education class by becoming the first company to put their course on a mobile device.

The idea is to let teens use their ideal time to get something done.

“They can get on their phone or their iPad and do it right there in the back seat of the car,” said Blake Garrett, Aceable Founder. “One of our customers finished her driver’s education after she had completed her finals. She had two options, play on her phone or take a nap. She couldn’t leave so she finished her driver’s education.”

Startup Weekend Education runs Friday through Sunday.

Registration is required. The cost is $99 which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner most days.

While this is the first Education Startup conference in Austin those who can’t attend should see another one organized soon.

Right now the education tech industry is a $7 billion business.
