The Student Success Initiative (SSI) has given districts the power to apply for an accelerated instruction waiver.
Students who were not successful in taking the STAAR test have a second opportunity to take the test, and the district must provide accelerated instruction between tests. In the past, summer school focused on accelerated instruction. With recent changes in the accountability system for fifth through eighth grades, students now have to master the test before moving to the next grade.
