Did the X Games help Austin business?

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Businesses are reporting mixed results from Austin’s first X Games weekend.

“It’s been par for the course, pretty average,” said J.T. Bundick with Halcyon, a lounge, bar, and coffee shop in downtown Austin. “Compared to F1, nowhere near the business that F1 (had). I mean, they had the street blocked off out here during F1. I think the biggest difference is that the race track is so far out.”

Halcyon prepared for the possibility of more traffic because of the X Games.

“We’ve sent most of our extra help home early,” Bundick said.

“We have been overwhelmingly packed on East Sixth which is Congress to I-35,” said Bob Woody, president of the East Sixth Street Community Association and a business owner.

Woody says the East Sixth Street area fared better than other parts of town.

Numbers from the Austin airport also show an increase in the amount of departing passengers passing through security on X Games weekend, compared to the weekend before.
