Austinites soak in summer X Games

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin’s first ever X Games continued at the Circuit of the Americas on Saturday.

Locals have been soaking up the excitement and say there’s no better place for the games.

The atmosphere is electric.

“It has been awesome,” said Sherry Roper of Round Rock.

“I’m proud to be a Texan, proud to be riding here,” Morgan Wade, a BMX big air rider from Tyler, TX, said.

The energy is contagious.

“The closest example I can give you is a roller coaster,” said Wade. “You’re not strapped in and you’re hanging on with your fingertips.”

For many Austinites, this was the first time experiencing the hype.

“Amazing and something everyone should experience at least once,” Austin local Anthony Miller said.

Camren Sargent, a 13-year-old from Dallas, said, “The tricks are a lot cooler in person. It’s a lot bigger in person. You get the full experience.”

“I came here because it is here in Austin,” said Roper.

Locals say X Games and Austin are a perfect match.

“Better, farther, faster, higher bigger, and just, weirder,” Miller said.

“Cuz we have a little bit of everything,” said Wade. “And everything is bigger and better in Texas.”

“Great overall experience. One more day,” said Sargent.

While Sunday marks the end of X Games, Austinites have the next three years to look forward to.
