Fire engulfs townhome in NW Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A townhome in Northwest Austin was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene Wednesday evening.

The call came in about 8:10 p.m. for a fire at 8203 Summerwood Drive .

A neighbor said a two-story townhome was engulfed in flames and spread to the unit next door. Several emergency vehicles were on hand.

Austin Fire Department officials said several rounds of live ammunition were in the home, and loud popping noises could be heard (video below) for several minutes.

Thick, black smoke could be seen for several miles. Steck Avenue is closed in both directions in the area.
