PIU reviewing date change on SB5 vote

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Public Integrity Unit is now reviewing whether any wrongdoing was intentionally committed when a date change occurred on a bill’s filing at the end of this week’s special session.

The group said they have received multiple complaints after pictures and screen grabs showed the vote on SB5 taking place on June 26, then being changed to show it as taking place just before midnight on June 25.

Midnight was the deadline of the first special session.

The agency that maintains the unofficial records tell us they incorrectly changed the time stamp on the abortion regulations vote because of chaos on the Senate floor.

The Texas Legislative Reference Library operates the public records for the state House and Senate, but those records aren’t official until they’re verified.

Library officials say the records are done manually and the commotion that night made it hard to hear what was happening. They maintain they did not change any records at the direction of Senate officials.
