7 in. of rain dumped in NW Travis Co.

AUSTIN (KXAN) – While most areas in Central Texas saw rain on Thursday afternoon, areas of Leander and Jonestown saw up to seven inches in less than three hours!

The downpour flooded some portions of Sandy Creek in the hills off Round Mountain Road in Leander.

Residents in the area were stranded for hours trying to get past the creek — which was covered in two feet of water.

By 9 p.m., the rain started to dissipate and the low water crossing was crossable again.

On Lake Travis, one viewer sent us a picture of boat docks that came loose and started floating away. We’re hearing reports that East Street Marina in Jonestown sustained damage but it is not clear how much damage was done.
