The Williamson County Commissioners Court adopted their budget for FY 2012-2013 Tuesday and set the total county tax rate at 48.9029 cents per $100 of valuation.

The court adopted the effective tax rate, which is calculated to levy the same amount of property taxes as the prior year.

The total county tax rate is comprised of three tax rates. The general fund tax rate was set at 28.1529 cents. The road and bridge tax rate was set at 4.00 cents, one cent more than last year in order to allow for increased county road maintenance. The debt service tax rate is 16.7500 cents per $100 of valuation.

According to the Williamson Central Appraisal District, the average home value for FY2013 is $180,870. This is slightly above last year’s value of $180,779. With the adopted tax rate, the average home owner will pay $2.87 more in county taxes for the year.

The general fund budget was approved at a total of $129,361,127 and includes funding for three new paramedic positions, bringing the total number of new positions up to nine. The budget also included a 4-percent merit raise for civilian grade and step employees, a 3% increase for elected officials and funding for the Peace Officer Tenure System salary increases.

The Road and Bridge Fund budget was adopted at $18,679,473 and also included a 4-percent merit raise for employees. The Debt Service budget, which is repaying the debt associated with road and other capital improvements, is $68,242,151.

Last fiscal year, Williamson County began the budget year with $69.8 million in general fund reserves. County Auditor David Flores estimates that the fiscal year will end with a fund balance of $72.6 million, an increase of $2.8 million.
