Police: Man vowed to blow up 911 center

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A man accused of placing threatening phone calls to 311 and 911 operators in Austin on Monday is charged with making a terroristic threat.

According to police, Joseph Holgate Deidrich, 34, placed multiple calls to 311 and 911 demanding he speak to Chief Art Acevedo or he would “blow up the place.”

Operators said that Deidrich made multiple calls within 90 minutes and became verbally abusive and profane when he was told he could not speak to the chief. He began threatening violence to various operators, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Authorities said he was calling from a cell phone registered in Plymouth, Mich., to someone listed as a family member of Deidrich.

According to the affidavit, Deidrich has a history of making terroristic threats, resisting arrest and unlawfully carrying a weapon. He is listed as a top offender with the APD criminal unit, according to the affidavit.

Deidrich‘s bail is set at $10,000.
