Complete election results: Duty edges out Bradley in DA race

GEORGETOWN — Following one of the most contentious party races in recent years, District Attorney John Bradley lost the Republican nomination Tuesday to Country Attorney Jana Duty.

With more than 28,000 ballots cast in the GOP race for district attorney, less than 3,000 separated the two.

With all of the county’s 88 precincts reporting in at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Duty had 54.9 percent of the vote — 15,668 to Bradley’s 12,878.

Duty will face Democrat Ken Crain in the general election in November.

STATE HOUSE

Cedar Park Mayor Pro Tem Tony Dale will be the GOP nominee for the newly created state House District 136 which represents the Cedar Park and Leander area.

With all precincts reporting in, Dale had more than 66 percent of the vote.

The final unofficial tally showed Dale with 5,122 votes and his opponent Paul Matthews, a finance manager at the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, had less than 2,600 votes.

In November, Dale will face Democrat Matthew Stillwell and Libertarian Matthew Whittington.

STATE SENATE

With all but two of the District 5 Senate precincts reporting in early Wednesday, Williamson County resident and current state Rep. Dr. Charles Schwertner held a 75-25 percent advantage districtwide with 43,6321 votes to 14,763 for Ben Bius.

COUNTY ATTORNEY

Dee Hobbs avoided a runoff election after capturing 53 percent of the vote in the Williamson County Attorney’s race with Rick Kennon claiming about 30 percent and Jeff Maurice at 17 percent.

U.S. HOUSE

U.S. Rep. John Carter, longtime incumbent, the nomination with ease and will once again appear on the November ballot.

SHERIFF

Current Williamson County Sheriff James R. Wilson took 77 percent of the vote in his race against L.A. “Tony” Trumps.

In all, 25,514 ballots were cast in GOP race for Williamson County sheriff.

Of the more than 240,000 registered voters throughout Williamson County, about 37,000 ballots were cast for an overall voter turnout of about 15.40 percent.
